HUNDREDS braved the weekend's downpours to enjoy two days of fantastic live music at The Door Youth Project's first Lark in the Park festival.

Staged at Berkeley Castle, the event kicked off on Friday night with 80s glam-rock headliners Doreen Doreen.

Saturday night saw Dire Straits tribute act Shire Straits perform a medley of the classic hits, despite increasingly heavy showers keeping audience numbers lower than the previous evening.

Among the packed bill of other crowd-pleasing bands who performed were funk specialists Dysfunktional from Bristol, renowned Five Valleys 1950s rockers The Boogie Bop Boys and Stroud favourites Inbetween Days and Lost Monkey.

A host of young people from The Door's own Undiscovered Youth Talent Contest performed on Saturday, including the Rebel Cheesecutters, Ciara Wakefield and ventriloquist Kieran Powell, who had been on site all week helping to set up for the event.

Festival-goers also enjoyed visits from Peppa Pig and Buzz Lightyear in the children's tent, which included rides, face painting and a medieval themed art competition to tie in with the historic surroundings.

Brendan Conboy, chief executive at The Door, said: "From a festival point of view it was a success. The comments we had from people was that they really enjoyed themselves.

"But from a business point of view, unfortunately we did not raise as much as we would have liked.

"What we have done however, is establish a new music festival which we hope to take forward and make an even bigger success in future."
