Job loss fears grow as Stonehouse manufacturer fails to pay salaries on time for second month running
OVER 100 workers at Stonehouse-based LightSpeed Construction Ltd have not been paid on time for the second month running – fuelling fears a raft of redundancies could be on the horizon.
Shop floor and support staff at the accommodation manufacturer, totalling some 106 employees, had expected to be paid today, Friday, September 28 but instead were sent home early without their salaries and told not to return on Monday.
The missed pay date is the second under LightSpeed Construction, which took over management of the business from Unite Modular Solutions at the end of June. An employee of the company, who asked to remain anonymous, said a senior management figure held separate meetings with shop floor workers and support staff on Wednesday this week, during which employees were told redundancies could occur.
The employee said some staff are in danger of failing on their mortgage repayments and other bills because of the missed payment.
"There are a few colleagues who are sailing very close to the wind financially," the employee said.
"I have heard of a couple of people who have had real problems and even some who have become quite unwell because of the stress of it all.
"All there is on the shop floor is gossip about what is going on and real anger and frustration.
"Our next best option has to be to go into administration."
The SNJ attempted to contact bosses at the company but nobody was available for comment.
