STROUD MP NEIL Carmichael has welcomed an announcement that Stroud District Council is to receive a grant of £5.9million to bring its properties in line with the government’s ‘Decent Homes Standard.’ The standard was set up by the previous Labour Government to ensure social housing met the minimum requirement of being warm, weatherproof and fitted with reasonably modern facilities. Mark Prisk, minister for housing, confirmed the allocation of the grant in a letter to Mr Carmichael following an application made by SDC’s previous Conservative administration.

“I am delighted that the government continues to support Stroud and provide funding so that council tenants do not have to live in sub-standard conditions,” said Mr Carmichael.
