A VILLAGE in Brittany will celebrate Bastille Day with an utterly unmetric firkin of beer from Stroud Brewery.

Nine imperial gallons of Celebration Ale, specially brewed by Stroud Brewery, will be taken by Bisley with Lypiatt Twinning Association to Plessala for Bastille Day on July 14, and to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their twinning.

Since 2007 it has become customary to take a firkin of Stroud Brewery beer on these visits.

The 'Bier Anglais' always goes down well.

The Bisley Twinners will be visiting over a period of four days including the July 14, travelling from Portsmouth to St. Malo.

On Bastille Day there will be the traditional French Veterans' Parade with at least one Bisley veteran marching, complete with Union Flag.

The Breton hosts are generosity itself and the festivities will include funfairs, fireworks, and much hearty eating and drinking, so the Bisley Twinners are in for a rollicking good time.

The Bisley with Lypiatt Twinning Association is a thriving, friendly group with members drawn from several villages around Bisley parish and even Stroud itself.

They meet five or six times a year for suppers, quizzes, musical evenings and other events to raise funds for the exchange visits to France.

In alternate years the Plessala Jumelage visits Bisley to enjoy a taste of Gloucestershire hospitality.
