STROUD MP Neil Carmichael tried his hand at making his very own pizza while visiting Sainsbury’s in Dudbridge this week.
Mr Carmichael visited the store in Dudbridge Road to shadow staff and learn about the training the company provides at its food colleges.
The store’s deputy manager Denis Mitchell showed Mr Carmichael some of the skills the staff had learnt from their training – which included the expertise staff have in preparing pizzas and salmon for special occasions.
Sainsbury’s specialist skills are taught at their food colleges which are City and Guilds accredited.
During the visit Mr Carmichael tried his hand at making a thin crust BBQ chicken pizza, with the help of Sainsbury’s colleague Sharon, and also observed the preparation of a whole salmon.
Sainsbury’s is the first retailer to achieve gold accreditation from Investors in People.
The assesors specifically highlighted the training available to staff and ways that the organisation engages with its colleagues.
“Investing in skills is key to providing a quality product and service, and from what I have seen Sainsbury’s is on the right track,” said Mr Carmichael.
