A GROUP of little chefs added a sprinkle of sweetness to the opening day of a new cafe in Stroud.

The national Loungers chain, which started in Bristol 12 years ago, opened a new branch in King Street on Friday – creating 25 new jobs.

To celebrate its opening day, children from Seasons Day Nursery, in Stratford Road, joined Loungers’ executive chef, Theo Guy, for a cookie decorating session. Stroud town councillor Lucas Schoemaker named Matilda Spencer, three, the winner of a colouring competition.

Curio Lounge, which has a rolling menu, caters for all tastes throughout the day.

The menu features everything from tapas to burgers, all-day breakfast and coffee and cake.

It also has a bar serving cocktails, local beer and a selection of wine and spirits.

Loungers has invested £500,000 transforming the empty unit on Kings Street into a two-storey retro home from home, where dramatic art work will sit next to oversized vintage sofas and statement light fittings, in the eclectic style, much loved by Lounge aficionados.

Chris Robinson, operations manager of the Loungers, said: “Stroud is the perfect location for our Lounge concept.

“There’s already a thriving and vibrant community and we’re really looking forward to playing our part in the foodie scene here.

“Stroud residents will be served by the very best - our new team is passionate about hospitality.

“Our excellent pre-opening and ‘on the job’ training programme ensures our staff will be at the top of their game.”

As part of the Lounge’s opening day celebrations, the chief executives hosted a private party at the cafe/bar on Friday night for local businesses and community leaders to showcase what the Lounge had to offer.
