A BOGUS caller has attempted to gain entry into an elderly woman's home in Shipton Moyne after pretending to be a police officer.

The man tried to enter the property at around 10.50pm last Tuesday after he claimed he was investigating burglaries in the area.

It is understood that the woman aged 81 was suspicious as the man did not have uniform or a recognisable identification, and refused to let him in.

Instead she called police and a genuine officer attended.

This is similar to a case last month when a man also in the village had his wallet stolen by a man posing as a police officer.

A spokesperson from Gloucestershire Police said: "At this stage we are not ruling out the possibility that these incidents could be linked."

PC Stuart Plant went on to say: "This lady clearly remained calm and took the right course of action, and I would urge anyone else in similar circumstances to do the same.

"It is easy to be taken in by people who say they are police officers so the sooner we can find this man and stop him targeting other potential victims the better.

"If anyone saw anything suspicious in this area I would urge them to contact us on 101 quoting incident 530 of 26 June."
