SMALL businesses across the Five Valleys can benefit from a new Stroud-based data systems service geared towards helping firms and sole traders get the most out of their computers.

Railton Consultants has been set up by Angela Railton and Nick Edmunds, who together have 25 years’ experience of using information technology in a broad range of commercial industries.

The pair can either work with existing software or develop individual systems from scratch to give their clients the tools they need to manage their company effectively.

"We are like tailors in the sense that we can give existing software a nip and tuck or run up a made-to-measure program," said Angela.

"Most small businesses use off-the-shelf software but often find it does not always fit their specific requirements.

"Unlike larger companies, however, they can not afford to employ a full time IT professional.

"That is why our new service will be a godsend for small businesses, especially with the continuing rise of people working from home."

Angela’s background in mathematics and Nick’s experience in engineering means they are not phased by complex data and complicated requirements.

"It is quite possible to run several businesses on older computers as long as you have the right software for the job," added Nick.

"Our approach is to spend time with clients, including those who will be using computer systems on a day to day basis, to find out exactly what they need their computers to do.

"We can advise them on the right software to fit their needs, link together existing software packages or develop specialist systems from scratch and provide the training they need to know how to use and develop it themselves."
