JUNIOR florist Kate Pearse-Marmont of Nailsworth-based Jacaranda Flowers is hoping her career will blossom when she takes on the industry’s finest in the semi-finals of major national competition.
Kate, 19, who started working at Jacaranda Flowers two years ago, has successfully made it through to the penultimate stage of the British Florist Association’s Young Florist of the Year Competition at the RHS Show Tatton Park in July.
Having recently completed her level 2 NVQ in floristry, and now working towards her level 3, Kate made it through to the next round after impressing judges with a floral wrist adornment she made during a preliminary event in Birmingham last month.
For similar success in July, she will have to create a number of separate pieces based around a certain theme, including another adornment, a floral arrangement, a presentation and a bouquet.
Kate said: "I am really quiet worried about it now – I am going to have to come up with some really immense ideas, something that is just going to blow the judge’s minds if I want to make it to the finals."
Sue Clarke, who first opened Jacaranda Flowers with her husband Richard five years ago, said: "It is great that she has come this far. There are lots of florists out there but not many bother to enter competitions.
"Kate has taken on a real challenge here."
Jacaranda Flowers is at 5a Fountain Street, Nailsworth, GL6 0BL.
