Wealth of cost-cutting advice on offer at environmental business workshops

BUSINESSES in the Five Valleys are being encouraged to take part in a series of new workshops, which aim to improve green policies, energy efficiency and cost-saving practices. Starting in Stonehouse in September, the free workshops, which are ran by Parklife, allows firms to benefit from more than £6,000 worth of training and support to help them apply sustainable practices in their own workplaces.

Parklife, which is managed by Gloucestershire First, was launched in the county last month and brings together universities, colleges and companies to help them manage their resources more efficiently and ultimately save money.

The exclusive courses are co-funded by Stroud District Council with major contributions from the European Social Fund.

One firm that is taking part is Stonehouse-based Eesicool Air Conditioning.

Divisional manager Derek Hyatt said: "Our reasons for taking part are two-fold - we want to reduce our impact on the environment, and by reducing waste we will become more environmental and efficient.

"This will also help us to reduce our costs - both aspects will make us more competitive."

Shaz Siddiqui from Parklife added: "As well as helping companies to become greener, this exciting new initiative will help companies respond to the difficult economic climate by finding ways to implement new cost reduction measures that have both financial and environmental benefits."

Businesses interested in booking their place on the programme can contact Shaz Siddiqui on 01452 450022 or email parklifeshaz@glosfirst.co.uk.
