MUM Olivia Barrington has gone from strength to strength since setting up her own catering business Olivia’s Kitchen from her home in Bisley.
The former estate agent, 46, has now secured a deal with live-in care agency Corinium Care to cook lunches for the firm’s monthly training courses at its base in Nailsworth.
In fact, it was Corinium’s founder and managing director, Camilla Miles, who encouraged Olivia to make the career switch, having known she had already trained as a professional chef.
"It has been an enormous success – I am having great fun," said Olivia, who studied at catering college before working in restaurant kitchens in London and Australia.
"The great thing about the food industry is that it keeps changing and you have to be brave enough to have a crack at something new.
"Some foods are simply no longer fashionable.
"Now people want goat’s cheese salad, fresh prawns in chili sauce and lemon tart.
"Everything is much lighter and there is less cream and smaller portions."
Praising Olivia’s success since rekindling her culinary expertise at Corinium Care, Camilla added: "She has done a great job.
"We run training for 16 live-in carers at our offices in Nailsworth for a week every month, as well as refresher courses for existing carers, so we wanted to make sure they had a good lunch every day.
"Since handing over our kitchen to Olivia she has comes up with fabulous food that really adds to the quality of our training."
