Britannia Dance

8:56am Friday 19th April 2013

Britannia Dance Competition Success LAST month Britannia Dance, an established Ballroom School in Cainscross, were represented by 12 of their students at the Southwest Area IDTA Medallist Ballroom Competition held in Timsbury, Bath. Ten local children (aged between seven and 15) plus two adults participated which has been the largest number since Britannia Dance started taking part at these events last year. The event was a pro-amateur style comp so competitors were allowed to partner with their teachers Sam and Martina Ellis who personally run all the studios Ballroom lessons. A vast number of different dance competitions took place over the course of the full day ranging from Viennese waltz, jive, rock 'n' roll, paso doble and the prestigious Ballroom Medalist of the Year event which included all the classic ballroom dances. The majority of Britannia's dancers reached the finals (top 6) in a large number of these comps so gained some very positive experiences and terrific results. The most outstanding dancers were: Maddie Rudkin (10) having attended only one comp before won the Ballroom Medalist of year event in the juvenile age group and came 2nd place in the classical sequence dance, the Gainsborough glide. Katie Pugh (seven) at her first ever comp came away with 3rd place in the Jive and 3rd place in Swing Freya Lewis (15) won the Classical Sequence Comp dancing the midnight tango and came 3rd Place in the Junior Ballroom Medalist of the year comp Emma Dolphin (13) came 2nd place in the Classical Sequence comp dancing the veleta and 3rd place in the rumba Ginny Hemming (27) came 3rd place in the Viennese waltz event in her first ever comp after learning ballroom with Britannia Dance for only 4 months. The remaining girls who took part and did brilliantly to reach finals were Susie Vance (15), Courteney French (15), Jasmine Sweetland (13), Charlotte Cutting (10), Molly Riddell (9), Katherine Payne (9) and Louise Sweetland (37) Britannia Dance run 12 classes a week for children of all ages and abilities teaching ballroom, Latin, classical and freestyle. Their new term of classes start in April /May for children as young as three years upwards. Lessons can be geared for social fun, medal tests or competition. "Learning to dance ballroom and Latin is fantastic as students get to enjoy so many different dances which all have their own individual style and character. Learning to dance also has its benefits in developing co-ordination and rhythm and of course is a great fun way for students to exercise and meet others too" says Sam Ellis the school principal. They also have three adults classes each week covering beginner to advanced level so for anyone interested in learning some of those Strictly moves then their new term started on April 9. The studio also offers most types of zumba classes too so they will be happy to discuss any interest in any classes you may have.
