KINGS Stanley Sport Club recently held the official opening of their new lounge extension, naming it the 'Alan Perrins Lounge' in honour of their late Chairman Alan Perrins, who passed away in November last year.

Alan was Club chairman from the inception of the Sports Club in 1985 and continued in that capacity right up until the time of his death.

Alan was a larger than life character who wore his heart on his sleeve and was also involved in other village activities, being chairman of the cricket club for over 20 years and serving as chairman, secretary and treasurer of the Kings Stanley Branch of the Royal British Legion at various times.

He was very much a hands on person for the Sports Club and along with a number of volunteers from the Football and Cricket clubs, spent many hours helping in the construction of the first phase of the club in 1985.

After an opening address by current club chairman Rob Penrith, in which he paid tribute to Alan’s commitment, the opening of the new lounge was performed by Alan’s widow Phyllis with daughter Sue and sons Steve and John also in attendance and all felt that Alan would have been proud to see the new lounge particularly for it to be named in his memory.

Kings Stanley Sports Club is the home of the village Football and Cricket Clubs and sits in the heart of the village at the Marling Close recreation ground, next to the Village Hall and was itself officially opened in 1986 by Gloucestershire and England cricketer, Jack Russell.

Membership of the Club is open to all at very modest membership fees and boasts some wonderful views of Selsley Common, Penn Wood and Stanley Wood which are often remarked upon by visiting teams and supporters.

Recently the Club has also formed a mixed darts team (Summer League) and a men’s darts team (Winter League).

The Club is open 6.00pm to 11.00pm Monday to Friday, 11.00am to 11.00pm Saturday and 12.00pm to 10.30pm Sunday and all the major sports events can be seen on Sky Sports and BT Sport channels on large screen TV.

Live entertainment is provided on selected dates, there is also a free monthly members draw, together with very competitive prices for draught beers and premium lagers.

Membership forms are available at the club during opening hours.
