MEMBERS were greeted by Vice Chairman Stuart Gregory in the absence of the Chairman who was indisposed.

The time has come round again to prepare plants and cuttings to donate to the Gardening Club`s Plant Stall at the Wap as this is our only means of raising funds for the Club which helps to give us that little extra from time to time.

We have organised two outings again this year, one for an evening to Gossington Hall and one whole day to Hidcote and Kiftsgate, recommended as some of the finest gardens in England, more details next month.

The next committee meeting will be on Monday, March 3 at 'Rosebank' starting at 2.30p.m.

Mike McCrea of Stratford Park was welcomed back to give an update a year on from his last visit to us in 2013.

He said that the nest boxes were yielding good results, as are the green corridors that have been developed.

2013 was a good year for most of the plant and animal life in the park.

The summer in particular helped the many moths and butterflies.

Round the lake area two walled planters have been constructed, as well as a wall alongside the path, which doubles as a seating area.

More perennials are being used in the flower beds around the park, this allows the seeds to be collected and used in other places. Edible plants have also been introduced.

Encouraging biodiversity within the park is the main emphasis of the park staff's work.

To this end the public are encouraged to join the park tours that take place during the year.

All the good work that is undertaken in the park was very instrumental in Stroud winning the Gold award from the Britain in Bloom.

Mike was given an enthusiastic vote of thanks, this was followed by the raffle and refreshments.

The next meeting in the hall will be on Tuesday, March 11 when we shall welcome back Jon Mason to give us 'Spring Gardening Tips'.
