WE re-organised our meeting schedule once again as this helps with our speaker on occasion and also gives our members a break for a chance to have a chat at the same time as enjoying refreshments.

This also means that we re-convene after the speaker has left to discuss the business of the evening.

This is valuable time for the ladies to get to know each other socially, especially as we welcome members from King’s Stanley who have come to join us.

The speaker for the March 10 meeting was Fiona Warin and her subject was ‘Allotments’.

What can be entertaining about allotments someone asked?

The reply was - look out for Fiona’s next talk and make every effort to attend it (wherever it is) – and you will be rewarded with an interesting story of how allotments have evolved over the years, and a very amusing evening.

You will have a brief but interesting history lesson (without realising it) and at the same time you will learn what to grow and when, and what not to grow and how much.

Altogether a most enjoyable talk when we learned of the growth and popularity of the allotment, and some of the fitter members were giving thought to the benefit of having an allotment – when one came available.

Yes, it was surprising to learn that most, if not all, allotments have a waiting list for people to grow their own.

After refreshments we continue the business of the meeting.

There will not be a pub lunch during March but members are asked to join in the Lent Lunch on Wednesday, March 19 in the Village Hall when the WI will be serving home made soups, a roll with butter and cheese and a piece of fruit for a total cost of £3.

The funds collected will be sent to The Willow Trust .

Maureen has organised an outing to Tredegar House, near Newport on Wednesday, June 11 and invited to member to watch the film ‘Filomena’ at her home on Tuesday, March 18.

The competition was for the most number of items in a matchbox – this proved very interesting with Margaret Burtt managing to get 54 items into hers!

Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month (unless otherwise noted) in the Village Hall at 7.30 pm.

Visitors are always welcome but, if you would just like to know more about us, please telephone the President on 822435 or Secretary on 822299
