THE Painswick Fairtrade group sponsored a Fairtrade coffee tasting morning on Saturday, March 1 at the Town Hall.

We had the generous support of Julia Mundell and the local Guides to help us in serving coffees.

Over 35 visitors enjoyed trying out different flavours and being surprised at the number and variety of types of Fairtrade coffee available.

A variety of coffee from Fairtrade farms in the Andes of Columbian, Rwanda, Kenya and Sumatra was served.

All these coffees are available from your local supermarket.

Mike from the Painswick Pharmacy supplied Fairtrade coffee, tea, biscuits etc for sale this day as well.

The Fairtrade movement ensures that growers receive a fair price, and the farmers also receive a Fairtrade premium to be invested to improve the quality of their produce, secure in the knowledge of a steady income and to improve their local schools.

This is our economic support.

The Painswick Fairtrade group also meets to support CSW (Christian Solidarity Worldwide).

This is an international Christian organisation working for religious freedom.

We have used some of the money we raised to pay the postage on cards we sent to prisoners of conscience to assure them they were not forgotten.

We are planning more tastings of Fairtrade produce in future and hope people will come along to try what a lot of delicious things are available.
