OUR February talk was given by Heather Loan of 'Canine Partners' who train dogs to help people who have mobility problems or other disabilities.

She brought along Yanek, a lovely dog who would make a wonderful pet for anyone; but she showed how the skills he had been taught could make a dramatic improvement in the everyday life of people who had difficulty in performing certain tasks – all this and a great companion too.

She explained the structure of 'Canine Partners' and how the training is undertaken.

She and Yanek demonstrated the remarkable tasks that the trained dogs could undertake and how at the mention of his name Yanek was immediately alert and waiting for instructions.

It was an awe-inspiring evening.

At our March meeting we celebrated our birthday and as our President had recently celebrated a special birthday she very kindly provided the delicious buffet; another excellent evening.

At our meeting on April 14, Fiona Warin will talk about 'Land Girls' and if it is as good as her talk on allotments which she gave us last year we are in for a delightful treat.

Join us if you wish - 7.30 in St. George’s Parish Room, Nailsworth.
