CHILDREN at Beaudesert Park School forwent the school’s notoriously delicious school dinners recently, when they chose to fast for a day as part of their religious studies.
The Year 8 children aged 12-13 have been studying Islam, and fasted from sunrise to sundown as they contemplated the Islamic festival of Ramadan which sees many Muslims fasting during daylight hours for a month.
As part of their studies the children also received a visit from the Imam Muhammed Foulds – a former Christian lay minister and currently the Imam at Bristol Prison.
The Imam spoke to the children and answered their questions about the Five Pillars of Islam, which are the five obligations that every Muslim must satisfy in order to live a good and responsible life according to Islam.
The pupils had previously visited the Masjid-E-Noor mosque in Gloucester, where Muhammed Foulds preaches.
