THE on-going monsoon season has not dampened the spirit of our club to get on the road whenever possible.

Sunday, February 2, saw 17 turn up in showery conditions for a ride led by Roy Jones through Frocester, Coaley and Ashmeads Green to Cam for tea at the Berry Blue Cafe.

The return journey was through Cambridge and Claypits.

On a windy February 9, Roy Jones became substitute leader for Peter Day and took fifteen members on a tour of local lanes before enjoying tea at Attwools of Whitminster.

A new teastop for the Wheelers and very satisfactory it was.

Sunday, February 16, was a lovely day and this encouraged 13 cyclists to accompany Peter Kwan on a hilly ride to Prinknash Abbey for tea.

Returning over Painswick Beacon and Edge.

Another windy Sunday, February 23, attracted a dozen riders to follow Bill Adams on a tour up to Burleigh and on through Besbury, Crackstone and Box before descending through Balls Green for tea at Nailsworth Garden Centre.

The monsoon caught up with us on March 2, but, nonetheless, seven members, led by Pete and Pat on their tandem, were brave (or daft) enough to sally forth along the A46 to Tiltups End and on though Chavenage for welcome and welcoming tea at Lindseys in Tetbury.

The soggy seven made their way home via Avening.

Come March 16, it looked like that the rain had at last relented and the daffodils were out in time for our annual visit to Harescombe Churchyard.

A total of 18 members following Malcolm Jackson, were not disappointed by a splendid display of yellow blossom.

After a wander around, accompanied by a few tunes on the Church organ by Peter Kwan it was time to cycle on for tea at The Stables Cafe in Saul.

On a showery Sunday, March 23, our local history man, Tony Martin was leader and attracted 17 to accompany him going out through Frocester and Cam and then on to the A38 to Berkeley Road before turning off through Breadstone where Tony explained the possible origins of the name.

Tea was taken at the ‘Black Shed’ before riding home through Cambridge and the A38.

March ended on a very pleasant note with Bill Adams leading 15 wheelers out through Standish, Hardwicke, Elmore, Longney and Epney for tea at the Stables Cafe.

Our Mothers Day jaunt returned through Westend.

Our winter season of Wednesday afternoon rides have been well supported.

Wednesday evening outings being on April 16 at 18.15 hours, leaving from ‘Greenaways’ (the former turning into Ebley Mill).

Any possible new members are welcome along for flatish rides of less than 20 miles.

Our club welcomes new members, including families with teenage children.
