THE Vice Chairman Stuart Gregory chaired the meeting as the Chairman was indisposed.

He reminded members that the Wap will take place before the next regular meeting of the Club so please donate plants etc and leave them outside the front of the Village Hall as usual, volunteers were called upon to help set up and to help clear up at the end of the day, thanks in advance.

Stuart also informed members about the two forthcoming outings - the evening one to Gossington Hall on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, leaving the Vine Tree car park at 6pm costing £8.00 including refreshments.

The second outing to Hidcote and Kiftsgate leaving the Vine Tree car park at 8.45am the cost of this outing is £23.00 for both gardens.

Non members are also welcome.

Ann Adams mentioned that plans for the holiday were progressing well and that itineraries were expected to be distributed next month, by which time all money should be paid.

Mr David Cropp was introduced to talk on Defensive Gardening at the time of climate change.

He explained that climate change was not totally new and gave instances of extreme weather change in the past, having said that he went on to explain how, by thinking outside the box we can manage the changing conditions we experience now.

For example leave small weeds as they stop evaporation from the soil.

If we know where plants originate from we can understand their needs better.

David`s talk was quite thought provoking and also entertaining.

During tea he answered members questions.

A vote of thanks was given by Cilla Tidmarsh.

The raffle was won by Jean Womersley and Sue Cunningham.

Thanks again to Norma for serving refreshments.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 13, the subject will be 'Gardening for Wildlife'.
