STROUD Lip-Reading Group is celebrating its future as a grant of £1,593 from Stroud Town Council's Community Support Fund has been received by the Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA).

The money will be used to promote the lip-reading classes for Stroud residents.

Classes restart for the summer term on Tuesday, April 29 at a new venue, St Alban's Church Hall in Parliament Street, Stroud.

Weekly sessions are led by tutor Tanya Harper and last from 1.30 to 3.30pm with a break for refreshments and socialising.

The cost is £3 a session and anyone with a hearing loss is welcome to come along for a free taster.

Beginners are encouraged to relax and enjoy learning a new skill which helps conversation with family and friends, following television programmes, listening to talks in public places, and making shopping and medical appointments easier to manage.

Advice and information are also given on equipment available to help with hearing problems, and hearing aid batteries can be supplied, as in future they will only be obtainable from Rowcroft Medical Centre and Stroud Hospital.
