IN the absence of Gill, Julie welcomed members and a visitor to the meeting informing them of forthcoming events.

These included an Arts and Crafts Day at Chipping Camden, a walk at France Lynch, the Christmas Concert and invitation to join the WI choir and a Scrapbook Demonstration.

After the financial report from Chris, we then discussed arrangements for the Group Supper to be held at Whitminster later this month.

In addition to the organized walks it was felt that it would be a good idea, during the summer months at least, to start our own local walks. We decided to set a provisional date of May 29 to gauge the response.

This year will be the 44th Anniversary of Arlingham WI so it was suggested we do something different in place of our usual meeting in June.

Afternoon tea at Thornbury Castle was settled on as the proposed venue.

There was no speaker this month as there was the annual ‘Resolution’ to discuss.

This year the resolution is to increase organ donation with the NFWI encouraging every member to make their wishes known regarding organ donation.

This is a very difficult decision for those losing a loved one but the resolution is about easing the burden on grieving families.

Over 19 million people are on the UK Organ Donor Register but there are 7,000 people needing a transplant at any one time and three people on the waiting list die each day.

The resolution was carried unanimously.

We then enjoyed an ‘American Supper’ with each member bringing along a dish for us to share.

There was an amazing spread which was much enjoyed by all those present.

The competition for an item beginning with the letter D was won by Val with a china duck, second was Bronwen with a doll and third was Maureen with a little dog.

There will be no meeting in June as we celebrate with a Summer Event.

The next meeting will be on July 10 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

The competition will be ‘Something beginning with the letter E.’

New members and visitors are always welcome.
