ON Sunday, May 11, eleven members of Stroud Rambling Club enjoyed a six mile walk in the Arlingham Peninsula walking around the inside of the Horseshoe.

After setting off from the Stroud Leisure Centre car park we met up at the small car park in Arlingham and the walk that was led by Paul started off by walking down the High Street before turning right into Silver Street.

Although this was road walking it was very quiet and there are many interesting old buildings along the way.

Soon after passing Slowwe House we left the tarmac and joined some field paths that took us nearly due East out to the River Severn.

From here the walking (and navigation!) was very easy - just keep the river to your right.

We followed the riverside path all the way round until we reached two pylons quite close to each other.

From this point you turn left onto a clear track which took us back to our awaiting cars.

Had it not been raining we may have stopped to visit the church yard which contains many elaborate head stones and 'table top' style graves.

This walk is full of interest, good views across the river towards the Forest of Dean and if it is of interest many different birds to identify.

Stroud Rambling Club has a walk every Sunday throughout the year and new members are assured a warm welcome.
