ON our latest club holiday based in Chester, six gardens were visited plus the Garden Village of Port Sunlight.

E route to Chester the first garden visited was at Little Wenlock.

This set the standard to which all the others had to match or better, and they did.

Four gardens were within two hours of Chester and varied in size from three quarters to eight acres, all very different but with such variation in planting, design, structure and age. The weather also did its part to add to the great enjoyment we all experienced.

We were fortunate to have in the group someone who had lived and worked at Port Sunlight so was able to provide an excellent commentary as we toured the village.

The final garden was back in Shropshire near Market Drayton which gave us a truly colourful and lovely end to the holiday.

All the owners/keepers were so welcoming and produced mouthwatering cakes with tea and coffee.

Our driver suggested that we re-name ourselves The Tea and Cake Club!

Many thanks must go to Rover European Travel for looking after us so well, also to the Club for organising the holiday, with special thanks to Ann and Betty.

From the many comments received, everyone had a good time.
