THERE were 160 players in 16 teams from Gloucestershire and Wiltshire (one from Chippenham), ranging from Rednock School to a team of semi professional players called Smith’s Shotguns – who were eventual winners.

There were many spectators and supporters - 300 plus.

Charlie Sharples attended as our special guest courtesy of Adey, and gave his time to everyone – chatting to the spectators and appearing in many photos.

There was also another special guest – this was a seven foot high manikin dressed in Gloucester/Adey rugby kit – who stood guard outside the Sports Massage tent and who caused a lot of amusement – and also appeared in many photos.

Of course we had to give him a name - and what else but 'Adey'

Charlie Sharples said he looked like his team mate Will James (Gloucester Lock forward) and took a video of 'Adey' to send to Will.

The trophies were presented by Geoff Davies, President of the Gloucestershire RFU who praised the standard of play in the tournament and endorsed Touch Rugby as a sport in its own right, and hoped that this tournament would help its development in Gloucestershire.

Geoff also paid tribute to the way Rob Camm has dealt with the aftermath of his accident, in that he has shown great courage and determination to rebuild his life, meeting the challenges he faces with positivity and a great sense of humour.

He described him as a “very special young man”.

We wished him well at Bristol University – where he enrols this September to read for a degree in Philosophy and Politics.

Adey's donations to the half time auction raised £720 and the overall total from the tournament will be over £5,000 – some monies still coming in.

The event was attended by Rob Camm with his parents and he watched the semi finals and final.

The CUP final for the Adey Magnaclean Touch Rugby Trophy was between Smith’s Shotguns and Stroud Rugby – and was won in a close contest by Smith’s Shotguns.

The winners of the Plate (for Pool second placed teams) was Thornbury RFC, The Bowl (for Pool third placed teams) by The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from Wotton RFC, and the 'Spoon' for fourth placed Pool teams by Dursley United.
