IT IS 10 years since we last held an Australian tasting and Sarah Ahmed, wine writer and wine presenter gave us a most interesting and informed view of the current state of the industry in Australia.
Representing Wine Australia, Sarah showed a range of top Aussie wines contrasting the latest cutting edge wines employing most up-to-date technologies with acknowledged classics.
Four pairs of wines were examined, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir/Grenache (hot climate Pinot) and Shiraz and by and large we preferred the classics.
Gone are the big blousy over alcoholic styles of the past; these modern wines are far more elegant and restrained and consequently much easier to enjoy and match with food.
