BOOK lovers in Bourton-on-the-Water will benefit when the village library moves into a bigger, brighter home in September.

The library will be moving the short distance from its current premises at the youth centre building, to a new community hub which is being created at the former Moore Cottage Hospital.

New equipment including a self-service machine will be available and the newly re-decorated building will provide a much bigger space for library users to get lost in a good book and utilise a wider range of services on offer.

The move will also mean parents and their young children can enjoy the popular Baby Bounce and Rhyme classes and storytime sessions and allows the library to hold more events and activities.

Cllr Dorcas Binns, cabinet member for public health and communities said: “The move into a newer, bigger, and brighter home where everyone will have much more space to enjoy the services we offer is very positive.

“The self-service machine is a great new addition and the Baby Bounce and Rhyme classes which are popular at other county libraries can now be offered in Bourton-on-the-Water. I hope lots of people in the area pay a visit to the new library soon.”

Bourton Parish Council will take over the running of the site which is also expected to include a new parish council office and café.

Local county councillor Paul Hodgkinson, said: “The new community hub is very exciting for everyone in the area as it brings together a number of services like the library, parish council and health services in one place.

“The community has been working on this for some time so to it see it come together in a newly-renovated facility which looks fantastic, is great news.”

The final day that the library will operate at the youth centre building will be Wednesday 27th August and it will re-open in the new location on Wednesday 3rd September. There are only two days when the library will be closed when it would normally be open – Friday 29th August and Tuesday 2nd September.

The library will operate the same opening hours.
