WHILE some people believe that by transforming homes with expensive makeovers will make a home a memorable place to live new research reveals that celebrations, family milestones and raising children are memories that stay with homeowners.
A survey to identify people’s favourite memories of a first home showed that family celebrations, first Christmases, raising children and the feeling of independence and pride remain with the occupants for years to come.
The report, a result of a survey conducted by One Poll on behalf of the leading housebuilder David Wilson Homes, also unearthed a wide range of heart warming memories including bringing home a new born baby for the first time to the sense of achievement of owning a property, while some were simply happy to have their own space and the freedom to do what they wanted.
David Wilson Homes sales director Louise Ware said that homeowners questioned had a wide range of memories of their first home but family milestones and celebrations were top of the list.
“While many people remember particular features such as a country kitchen or a large garden, and even the odd DIY disaster, the majority revealed that family occasions and milestones as their overriding memory of their first home.”
Top favourite memories of a first home include:
1 Raising children in the home
2 First Christmas in a new home
3 A sense of achievement in being a homeowner
4 House warming party
5 A sense of pride in owning a home
David Wilson Homes currently has a range of new homes available in Swindon including Beaufort Park in Royal Wootton Bassett and The Sidings in Ocotal Way, where you can begin to create your own memories.
