A YOUNG girl has been honoured for her dedication to Girlguiding whilst courageously battling a serious illness, with a prestigious Guiding Star Award.
Maisie Sullivan (aged 8) was presented with a specially-designed brooch by her Brownie Leader at a recent ceremony at Pennwood Scout Centre.
Maisie first became involved in guiding when she joined Nailsworth Rainbows.
She went on to join 1st Woodchester Brownies in April 2013 and has been an enthusiastic member ever since, despite her health problems.
The Guiding Star Award is a very special award presented to members of Girlguiding who display exceptional courage and determination.
Jackie Hayes, Maisie’s Brownie Leader, said, “We were so proud when we heard Maisie had been awarded this national award. Maisie’s determination and courage, taking full part in our Brownie programme, despite hospital appointments and medication side-effects have been absolutely amazing. Maisie is always smiling and always ready to help her friends. We are delighted that Girlguiding has recognised Maisie’s efforts and achievements.”
Girlguiding gives girls and young women their own space to have fun, grow in confidence and discover their full potential. For more information, call 0800 1 69 59 01 or visit www.girlguiding.org.uk
