WYCLIFFE Choral Society resumes rehearsals on Tuesday, September 2 and new members are welcome on all four parts.

The choir numbers about 100 members at present and is noted for its friendliness.

Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7.45 – 9.30pm during term time in the Performing Arts Centre, Wycliffe Preparatory School, Stonehouse, and newcomers can attend rehearsals in September to see how they get on before committing themselves to join.

There are no auditions and copies of the music are provided.

The programme for the year includes The Peacemakers by the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins which dates from 2011 and is a companion piece to his enormously popular The Armed Man.

It is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in armed conflict and the text includes words by Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and Terry Waite among others, as well as quotations from religious texts such as the Bible and Qur’an.

It is a most moving work with music that is extremely varied and very rewarding to sing.

The performance is on Sunday, November 30 after which the choir will start rehearsing for its May concert and tour to Malta for which the programme will include Beethoven’s Mass in C and Poulenc’s Gloria.
