IT IS impossible to believe that we are now nearly in to Autumn and that we have had another busy few months at our meetings with such diverse subjects as Help a Hedgehog Hospital, a talk given by one of their many volunteers John Crowther, who brought along a sweet little hedgehog which they had managed to nurse back to health, but unfortunately was far too sleepy to unfurl himself for the benefit of our ladies.

The little creature was due to be released back in to its own habitat shortly after our meeting.

Wendy one of our members very kindly organised an ‘Open House’ evening where she supplied the most delicious tea and cakes, raffle and bring and buy stall, requesting donations be made towards the Help a Hedgehog Hospital.

Nature in Art was presented to us in June by Simon Trapnell who made us think and look at art in a very much deeper perspective, encouraging us to use our own imagination to interpret art rather than just what it looks like.

Wallsworth Hall in Twigworth where Nature in Art is based has many exhibits of artwork throughout the year along with special exhibitions and artists in residence, including many well-known ones, but allows lesser known craftsmen and artists whose work may not be as well recognised display their own individual styles.

Well worth a visit.

July’s meeting took on a very different format from our usual meetings as we did not have a speaker but instead had decided to have a ‘Show & Tell’ evening which proved to be a very stimulating evening covering members own life experiences from travelling around the world, taking part in a yacht race, restoring an old cottage whilst bringing up children, stories associated with a family quilt, lacemaking and painted china and also a local connection with nursing and Standish hospital.

As it was such a successful evening there will be many more interesting tales to be told at future ‘Show & Tell’ evenings.

Throughout the summer several of our members have been involved in various activities including marbling at WI House and cake making for the Three Counties Show at Malvern.

Congratulations must go to the ladies who designed and made our wonderful Stonehouse WI Centenary Pennant which was on display at the show, judged by the public and was the overall winner out of over 60 entries, well done to all who were involved in helping us to win.

The next few months will again have a very diverse range of subjects for us to enjoy at our monthly meetings and we have again been asked to participate in the Stonehouse ‘Celebration Day’ organised by the Rotary Club which this year will take the form of a detective theme.

So Miss Marple here we come!

Our next meeting will be a talk by Shani Wills on her history of making/decorating cakes and she will give us a demonstration of how to make sugar paste roses and afterwards we will be let loose to attempt our own.

Anyone interested in cake making/decorations would be most welcome as would any new ladies to the area.

Why not give us a try.

Our meeting will be held at Stonehouse Community Centre on Wednesday, September 17 at 7.30pm.
