FOR our August meeting Joan Southerton an area demonstrator from Stourport defined her flower arrangements around special moments in her life which she called 'Bits and Pieces'.

Her first arrangement was a myriad of colours against a background of variegated hedra, she arranged purple gladioli, dahlias, alstroemeria, white carnations and sunflowers in a basket depicting a scene from a Belgium market.

Her second arrangement was a more modern design in which with palm leaves, agapanthus, pink gerberas and lizeanthus she created an 'Oriental Look'.

'Monet's Garden' was her inspiration for the next arrangement.

A simple design using fatsia leaves from a members garden, together with pink lilies and roses which she arranged on a frame of bamboo canes.

Orange was the colour chosen for her fourth arrangement of gladioli, calla lilies and roses in a container which cleverly depicted the Olympic Torch carried at the Commonwealth Games.

For her finale Joan created an all white arrangement of eucalyptus soft ruscus, september flower, white carnations and roses reminiscent of a sparkling summer fountain.

Joan drew the audience into every part of her demonstration taking her time and displaying her obvious enjoyment in what she was creating.

Our next meeting is on September 3 when Ann Willetts (Area) will be demonstrating 'Memories'.
