AFTER our summer break, when in August some members went on a trip to Berkeley Castle, followed by a cream tea which was much enjoyed, President June opened the September meeting.

We had a good turn out of members all looking very summery dressed for the beautiful weather we are currently experiencing.

Our speaker for today was Nicky from Sugar Craft of Stonehouse and she gave a brief insight into how she started her business and what it entailed.

It was fascinating to watch how in front of our eyes how she created figures, giving us tips all along the way.

She started with a snoopy looking dog, then a cute black and white cat, followed by a penguin.

Finally she fashioned a pink rosebud.

There were lots of questions which Nicky answered and we are all now fired with enthusiasm to start making our own and perhaps joining one of the classes that she offers.

After a cup of coffee and chat, we commenced our usual business.

One of the things which was discussed by Gill, our Treasurer was a request for members to pay upfront for any events they book and not leave it to accumulate.

She suggested members carry their cheque books with them or pay by cash, putting the money in a marked envelope.

Also the question of making sure that emergency contact numbers are always put on booking forms was again made clear.

Failure to do this, would result in that person not getting tickets or if a group booking, could effect everyone’s allocation of tickets.

June will not be at October’s meeting and reminded everyone that the AGM was in November when she would be standing down as President and that Stroud Shambles WI would need a new President and some new people to go on the committee.

She stressed that failure to obtain a President, would mean that this WI would finish.

Birthday flowers were given to Chris, our Secretary who was serenaded with the usual Happy Birthday.

Our next meeting is on October 8 when John Heathcott will be talking about Ancient Woodlands of Gloucestershire.

There will also be a Bring and Buy Stall.

Visitors and new members will be made very welcome.

We meet the second Wednesday of every month at 10.30 a.m. at the Stroud Congregational Church Hall in Bedford Street, Stroud.
