MONDAY, September 9 saw the return to regular monthly meetings of the Leonard Stanley Women’s Institute – it was good to see so many members turn up.

It seemed such a long time since we were together in spite of the most enjoyable Ploughman’s lunch in August.

There were still some members enjoying a late holiday but even so, a well filled Village Hall welcomed Nicky Clark who had come to tell us of his adventures in Corsica.

As is our usual custom, we started the meeting with the speaker and followed this with our coffee/tea break in social time with the business to follow.

Nicky had a quantity of slides and large map of the island which he referred to in conjunction with the photographs so we could follow the roads and footpaths he and his family had covered during their stay there.

It must have been a very different way of life when he exchanged homes and jobs with a teacher from Corsica, to teaching in England.

His family was very happy there and were sorry when the exchange came to an end.

The population of Corsica was somewhat different to that of England and it wasn’t long before they got to know all the local people.

Needless to say the family have made many returns to the island.

Their excursions by road must have raised their pulse rate not only because of driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road but because of the sheer drop without any safety railings for protection.

The meeting was then called to order after the break, and the Pub Lunch for September was arranged to be at The Bell Inn, Selsley on Tuesday 16 - meet at the Village Hall at 12 noon.

We were reminded that once again we will be supporting the Christmas Child appeal, and in November we will hold a a Bring & Buy at the monthly meeting to raise funds for the postage.

Our October meeting will be on the 13th when Sue Edwards will demonstrate and play her Autoharp and members were invited to bring their favourite instrument and choose a record.

Members were reminded that Maureen will be hosting the MacMillan Coffee Morning on Saturday, September 27 and we are asked to give her our support to make this a success.

Gifts of cakes, raffle prizes and small (wrapped) tombola prizes would be appreciated.

Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month (unless otherwise noted) in the Village Hall at 7.30 pm. Visitors are always welcome but, if you would just like to know more about us, please telephone the President on 822435 or Secretary on 822299.

We would like to welcome you.
