LANSDOWN Hall and Gallery has a smart glass lobby in the entrance to the Gallery thanks to Biffa Award, and with winter approaching this is a particularly welcome addition to the building.

As Jeremy Collingwood, Chair of Trustees for the Hall and Gallery explains, “Visitors still enter the Gallery via Lansdown, but since having the new lobby in place rather than opening directly from the street, it’s become a much warmer and more comfortable environment for everyone to enjoy the exhibitions.”

“Another great advantage of having a glass lobby is that it allows anyone passing by to catch a glimpse of the current exhibition encouraging more people to come in and look around.”

The lobby is part of an ongoing programme of improvements which also includes the installation of an air source heat system, new radiators in the Hall and acoustic wool insulation in the roof, all made possible with funding from Biffa Award, a multi-million pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT), which utilises landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Group Limited.

Jeremy continues, “We are always looking for opportunities to improve the service and facilities we offer our hirers and visitors and these improvements are also very important from an environmental perspective as they allow us to mitigate heat loss and improve our energy efficiency.”
