Christian Comment with Steve Scott of Tetbury Community Church

I SOMETIMES get asked “If I become a Christian, won’t my life just be boring?”

As I look around at what often gets portrayed as “being Christian” I can totally understand why that question gets asked.

However Christianity was never intended to be and doesn’t have to be boring.

In verses seventeen and eighteen of the final chapter of the Gospel of Mark we get told by Jesus “ And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”.

These signs were not intended to accompany just the first generation of Christians but every generation including the current one.

The Christianity Jesus describes here sounds exhilarating and even a little risky.

It’s a far cry from being about what you don’t get to do and totally about what you do get to do.

To be a part of a movement that gets to bring light where there is darkness and health where there is sickness.

How can that in any way be boring.

If you are already Christian and have settled for boring, can I suggest it’s time for you to look for some real Christian excitement in your life.

There a plenty of people tormented by the darker side of spirituality that would love to be free and you don’t have to look that far to find someone who is sick who would like at least to be offered a chance of health.

If you are not a Christian and people keep telling you that you should be, maybe, rather than just saying no, ask them for evidence that they themselves are believers.

If they really are, then Jesus says these signs will accompany them.

If they do, that might be all you need to see to decide Christianity might be ok after all.
