FOUR members recently entered wines in the South Western Counties Annual Wine Competition which was held in Bournemouth.

All were awarded places however Fred Gilpin did exceptionally well winning the cup for his after dinner wine and picking up five places in other classes.

At our latest meeting John Coleman conducted a commercial wine tasting with a difference where members were given a map of France which each of the main wine growing regions shaded in different colours.

The objective being for members to try and place which area a particular wine originated, this presented quite a challenge.

October is always the month when we hold our largest set of competitions which this year was judged by Bill and Bridget Berrecloth of Brockworth.

The table red dry was won by Christine Philp with Don Wilkins second and Valerie Fussell third.

The table white dry was won by Dave Marlow with Neil Gow and Joyce Meadows coming second and third respectively.

The social red winner was Dave Marlow with Cyril Young second and Brenda Marlow third.

Christine Philp took first place in the social white class with Brenda Marlow and John Coleman taking the second and third spots.

Dave Marlow also triumphed in the vintage red class with Gillian Gay in second place and Don Wilkins third.

Having amassed the greatest number of points Dave Marlow was declared champion wine maker and was presented with the trophy by Valerie Fussell, the chair person.
