THE guest speaker at the last meeting in 2014 was Peter Lewis from Cirencester Probus with a talk entitled 'Nostalgia'.

He took us back to the 40s and 50s music scene, playing excerpts from various songs and asking if members could identify the singers, he would then give a potted history of how they began in the world of entertainment.

He mentioned Irving Berlin as probably the most prolific song writer of that era, and said he wrote 'I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas' while sitting beside a swimming pool in Californian sunshine.

It went on to become the most frequently played tune in history.

This was a most enjoyable presentation which was much appreciated by members and their ladies who had been invited to join us for the morning.

Peter Nairn, the president gave a vote of thanks.

The talk was followed by the traditional Christmas dinner which was prepared and served on site by the staff of 'The Bowlers Bistro'.

It was the unanimous opinion that the meal was excellent in every respect.

The next meeting will be at 10.15am on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Cotswold Indoor Bowling Centre, Dudbridge, Stroud.

It is open to all retired men and there is ample free parking on site.
