CAINSCROSS WI met for their Social Evening in early January and everyone enjoyed a catch up with friend’s news, a bird related quiz and progressing with their knitting or sewing projects and a cup of tea with cake, biscuits and mint chocolates - who mentioned a diet!

The sales table was loaded with homemade pickles and chutneys, handmade cards, books and other bric-a-brac.

We looked at recent correspondence and made our votes for the forthcoming Resolutions. Members present also paid their yearly subscriptions.

Apologies were received from Rowena Eccles, Kate Parrot, Val Dalby and Dot Brunning and we held a minute’s silence to commemorate the passing of late member Vera James.

Our next meeting will take place, as usual at 7.15pm in St. Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross, when we will welcome Mr Roger Umpelby and his talk on ‘X-rated invertebrates - sex and savagery in the garden’ which sounds like fun.

Visitors/new members would be more than welcome to join us for this or other meetings that take their fancy and we also have a good sales table, refreshments and a raffle every month.

If you cannot make Tuesday, February 3 for Mr Umpelby, the next meeting will fall on Tuesday, March 3, when local Mr Barry Harrison will talk on ‘Lionel Hook’.

We finished the evening with calling the raffle and the monthly competition winners for a ‘New Year’s Resolution’ were announced as:-

First - Mary Jarrett

Second - Margaret Adams

The competition for February will be for a ‘Valentine’s Day’ card and I hope you will join us at a meeting very soon.
