THERE was the expected full house last Monday to welcome Mark Savage MW who is a founder member of the Society.

Mark is a very busy Wine Merchant with an international reputation and it is a great privilege that he continues to honour us by presenting wines from his position of intimate knowledge of the producers and their vineyards.

Mark showed us exceptional wines with great character and refinement, no brash upstarts here.

We sampled Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay all showing charm and elegance yet full of youthful character.

There followed a red wine blended from 12 different grape varieties which at 10 years old was very fruity yet beautifully smooth and light.

Pinot Noir is the signature grape of Oregon and the three examples we tasted showed why - they were quite different from each other yet each a fine example of the winemakers art.

Liz thanked Mark for giving us his time and expertise and reminded members just how special this evening was.
