On March 4, it was pleasing to see that a large number of members and friends turned out for the evening which commenced at 7pm. with our A.G.M.
Members were advised of the changes in offices ; Joe Heffernan who has been our stalwart president for the past three years has been succeeded by Jo Mason our hardworking chairperson.
We welcomed Linda Foreman as our new chair.
Committee members have all agreed to continue for a further year and an invitation was extended to the floor for two more people to become new committee members.
Reports were read and signed £1,000 has been raised for charity and our annual membership remains at £30.
We look forward to another good year for the Club.
The Mary Barnard Cup was presented to Rose Grant and vouchers were given to first second and third winners of points for competitions throughout the year.
Third - Mary Oakey
Second - Elaine Bushby
First - Rose Grant
Our demonstrator for the evening was Veronica Coe (area) from Blakeney.
Veronica’s title for her demonstration was ‘A Fresh Start’.
For her first arrangement ‘a Taste of Spring’ Veronica arranged a simple basket of forsythia, the more unusual foliage garrier, together with red tulips, peach coloured roses and yellow daffodils to represent St David’s Day.
In contrast her second arrangement in a black Perspex container was more reminiscent of Japan.
This was again a simple but effective use of contorted hazel, sacred bamboo, and red tulips.
A third arrangement was a modern upright display of beautiful white lilies, white roses in a base of fatsia leaves, and rubus foliage.
For her fourth arrangement Veronica experimented in using an unusual homemade Cork Bark container into which she skilfully placed an abundance of orange roses.
She said that this depicted the view of the sunrise from her bedroom window at this time of year.
Her fifth and final design ‘Promises of Spring’ was a myriad of colour with yellow roses, yellow lilies, purple tulips and purple stocks arranged in a traditional Mother’s Day, or Easter Basket.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, April 1, at 7.30pm in Nailsworth Town Hall when new members and visitors are always welcome.
