IT WAS lovely to see so many members and visitors at Lansdown Art Club to appreciate Paul Weavers demonstration and talk on 'A Townscape in Line and Wash'.

Starting his talk with a pen and ink sketch of a member of his audience, to which he then gave a water colour wash, he progressed to a figure done in water colour and finished in pencil.

He then demonstrated his interpretation of a photograph using charcoal, laying emphasis on the shadows, explaining that these sketches were the ground work for his finished picture.

After the coffee break he began his picture using pencil then light water colour wash, added pen work and finished with a darker wash.

His audience watched intently as the picture took shape.

Because of the detailed description of his actions, his audience were able to take home many hints and ideas to adapt to their own work.

The Picture of the Month was won by John Bailey with a pen and wash picture but one that differed from that of the guest because he had used sepia pen, giving his picture a softer look.

The next meeting is on Thursday, April 14 at 7.30 in Sainsbury's cafe when Steve Hall will demonstrate 'Landscape and Marine-scape in Watercolour'.

As always, new members and visitors are very welcome.

Our annual exhibition is being held in Stroud Subscription Rooms from Saturday, April 11 to Saturday, April 18 (excluding Sunday 12), 10am to 5pm.
