ALTHOUGH the Lawn Bowls season ended in mid September last year a small team of Club members have been quietly looking after the Green weekly in the winter gloom in preparation for the official re-opening on Friday, April 10 at 6.30pm when the Club’s Vice President – Mr James Chamberlain - will be bowling the traditional “first wood”.

Lawn Bowls can be played by all ages both male and female and it truly is a family sport.

The Club, founded in 1900, always needs new members to continue to grow and keep its fine history and traditions in the town.

It will continue its popular Taster Sessions on Friday Club Nights starting on April 17 throughout the summer.

These are from 6.30pm - 9.00pm when coaching will be available.

Just pop along (please wear flat soled shoes) and meet the members, learn what the game is about and stay to socialise at the excellent (licensed) Clubhouse.

Once a member you can take part in Club competitions and/or League games or just play socially.

The Green is available almost every day of the week during the summer months and the Clubhouse/Bar is open on some other evenings as well.

Following the success of the combined Taster Day/Fun Bowls game/BBQ/Quiz evening last year the Club will be organising another such event on Saturday, August 22, which is worth putting in your diaries.
