PUPILS of the Beech class at Severn View Primary Academy had a lesson with a difference last week, when they visited the Kwik Fit centre on Bath Road.

The Years 1 and 2 children have been learning about vehicles in class, testing different types of vehicles on a variety of slopes and surfaces, and their visit to the garage was designed to help bring their work in the classroom to life.

To ensure that the children really felt the part, they were given mini Kwik Fit overalls to wear as the team at the centre demonstrated some of the work they do.

At school the children have been learning about the invention of the pneumatic tyre by John Dunlop.

In the centre they were shown a video of how the process began, and then saw tyres being fitted to customers’ cars, showing how the information the children had learnt in school could be applied in the real world.

Andrew Wood, Kwik Fit’s centre manager said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the children of Beech class to our centre. The pupils are a real credit to Severn View Academy - they are bright and enthusiastic and had obviously been enjoying their classwork on vehicles. We hope that the visit inspired them to learn even more about the subject – and that there may now be some aspiring mechanics in the class.”

The children were all provided with goody bags and balloons to take away to remind them of their visit, and went away with lots of stories to tell their friends and families.
