OUR next meeting is on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 7.30pm when Bill Treen will talk about Fairgrounds – Deakins Fair, Barton Street, Tewkesbury, where Bill used to live, was the traditional site of the annual Mop Fair.

Bill would always be a ‘Deakin’s fan’, as he could see the fair from his house.

The Welsh fairground firm of Deakin’s were famous for their equipment and generosity, the hey-days being the 1950s, and still travel to this day.

Bill got to know the Deakin family, wrote a book about them, and in 2006 he was made an Honorary Life Member of the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain.

He is currently involved in renovation of a 1937 Waltzer.
