Members and guests met in the village hall on Tuesday, April 14, for the monthly meeting.

The Chairman was disappointed at the low turnout and poor support the meeting received, considering the good weather and the start of the gardening season.

Television and computers certainly seem to be winning the battle for audiences these days.

Or are we missing something?

Those present were reminded to take full advantage of their membership cards when purchasing their plants, composts and garden sundries from the Pound Farm Shop and Garden Centre at Whaddon, where a 10 per cent discount would be given on production of their named card before purchase, an opportunity not to be missed.

Bookings are now in full swing for the one day outings, the first one is on Saturday, June 27, to Rosemoor at a cost of just £20 for the coach only, the gardens are free.

The second one is on Saturday, August 22, to Knoll Gardens in Dorset at a cost of £22 to include coach and gardens. To join us please contact Betty Clark on 01453 751796 ASAP.

Both are open to non members.

Everyone was encouraged to donate plants to be sold on the Gardening Club stall at the Wap on Saturday, May 9, this being the club`s main source of fundraising.

Gill Hazell was then introduced to give her illustrated programme named “So You Think You Know Gladiolus,” which proved to be a really colourful eye-opener for everyone.

Iris thanked Gill for a most enjoyable programme, the members then took advantage to purchase from the variety of corms and bulbs on offer.

Thanks to Margaret and Betty who served refreshments, followed by the raffle which was won by Val Flack, Monica Cook and Betty Clark.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 12, with Don Everitt introducing “Plants We Must Grow More Often.”
