OUR April meeting took the form of a member’s craft evening.

Unfortunately our President Lynne was unable to attend so Janice had to put on her other hat, as well as secretary and organiser of the craft evening to preside over the meeting.

Janice welcomed everybody including Anne, a visitor.

Apologies for absence were received, the minutes read and approved from last month’s meeting.

Members were also informed that the Queen and Princess Anne will be attending the Centenary AGM at the Albert Hall.

Congratulations were given to both our quiz teams, one of which will be going forward to the next round and the other was congratulated on just missing out going to the next round by one point only, so well done to them all.

The Centenary baton exchange went well and Janice informed us that the picture of the Weaver’s Group handover will be in next month’s newsletter.

Veronica is starting a book club for all our avid readers and for those who enjoy social evenings with food and drink Sandra is organising a supper club, Anne is organising a boules evening for any members wishing to play on the new boules court adjacent to the community centre and we hope all members and visitors will support these new ventures.

After the business had concluded we then started the craft side of the evening.

We were provided with a blank canvas bag on which to create our designs and fabric paint.

We amazed ourselves as there were some really beautiful, colourful and unusual designs created and everybody agreed what a fun social evening it had been and look forward to the next one.

In between decorating the bags we enjoyed tea and more scrumptious cakes provided by Wendy.

Ann W gave us a brief account of her visit to the Annual Council Meeting which this year had a talk from Diana Birch, NFWI Vice Chairman and Chair of the WI Enterprises Board and the afternoon guest speaker was Kate Bliss, well known for her antiques connections and TV appearances.

In summing up Ann said she thought it a very interesting and stimulating day and would recommend anyone who has never been to one of the Council Meetings to attend.

Our next meeting will be on May 20 at Stonehouse Community Centre, 7.30pm and will be a presentation given by Gloucestershire Film Society.

All visitors welcome.
