WE HAD a good number of members and visitors attend our May meeting.

We thanked Linda, our Treasurer, for her lovely table flowers all in green and white which included some sweet smelling stocks.

We discussed some correspondence received and voted on the Resolution which comes up at the AGM in June. Some members are going to the outing to Highnam Court, the lovely garden in Gloucestershire, in mid June with a talk and afternoon tea provided, so let’s hope the weather stays fine for that as ‘posh’ frocks are needed for the occasion.

We also discussed our Birthday Party outing proposed for the July meeting and this year we are going to Uffington in Oxford.

With business concluded, we enjoyed the ‘fun’ part of our evening with the annual mini-auction.

There were some good bargains to be had and much laughter with some members ‘outbidding’ each other to try and gain their choices.

These bargains included pot plants and containers, jewellery, handbags and other bric-a-brac.

In fact I don’t think anyone went home empty handed.

Our next meeting falls on Tuesday, June 2, when Tom Price will visit us to talk on ‘Orchids - how to grow and re-flower’.

Tom has been Treasurer of Cheltenham & District Orchid Society for many years and is a mine of information on the subject.

He may also bring along a few orchids for sale.

The meeting will start as usual at 7.15pm at St. Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross and there will be a raffle, sales table and refreshments available.

The monthly competition will be for ‘A flowering houseplant’.

As mentioned earlier, we will be away from Cainscross for the July meeting, but will be back in action at St. Matthew’s on Tuesday, August 4, when Mr and Mrs Yiend will discuss Dylan Thomas in words and music, which should be a very good evening.

Visitors/new members are always very welcome to join us, so I hope to see you soon.
