TWO Stroud mums who have faithfully supported thousands of couples and individuals as they prepare for and embark on parenthood are hosting a special double celebration.
Between them Mikala Ritzau and Meg Walker have clocked up 55 years with the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) - a charity offering practical and emotional support to both women and their partners before and after birth.
And to celebrate their achievements they are hosting a joint party on June 6 to which all family units they have met over the years are invited.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with Stroud Valleys NCT branch and the countless families we have had contact with over the years and to see the grown up babies who are now starting to have babies themselves. We feel very privileged to be part of this community through our work with couples who are expecting their babies.", says Mikala, who is a Excellent (Antenatal) Practitioner, Assessor and Mentor with the NCT.
Meg became a breastfeeding counsellor having had help herself and then trained as a postnatal group facilitator after her own experience of being a new parent in Central London, isolated 200 miles from her sisters and mother.
Finding friends through her NCT group was a lifesaver and was her motivation for doing the initial and ongoing training over the last 30 years.
She says of support groups in general and of MOBS in Stroud (Mothers Offering Breastfeeding Support): “There is something about a place where you can have a cup of tea and a homemade cake that is comforting and inclusive. This is especially important to first-time mothers, many of whom are new to the area or who have previously been out working full time.”
Mikala, Meg and the Stroud Valleys NCT branch would like to invite past and present parents to come and celebrate with them on June 6.
