Rodborough Tabernacle United Reformed Church

ON MAY 16 at Rodborough Tabernacle United Reformed Church the Cappella Singers gave a very enjoyable concert entitled “The Merry month of May.”

The varied programme provided something for everyone with the choir performing songs by Holst, Vaughan Williams and Parry, as one might expect, but also by Novello, Flanders and Swann and the Beatles.

“A Paris” was composed by musical director Philip Collis and sung in French.

The audience loved it!

There were instrumental interludes played by the talented David Butcher on guitar and Geoffrey March on cello which added texture and interest.

The final number given by the choir, “I wish I knew how it would feel to be free” by Billy Taylor, arranged by Roderick Williams, brought the concert to an uplifting close and enthusiastic applause.

£380 was made for Cotswold Care now known as Longfield. Miranda Davies, one of its ambassadors, attended the concert and gave a short but very enlightening talk after the interval about its valuable work in our community.

On Sunday, May 24, at 10.30am in the Community Hall at Rodborough a joint service between St Mary Magdalene Parish Church and Rodborough Tabernacle United Reformed Church conducted by Rev Brian Ludlow and Rev Eric Massey took place to celebrate Pentecost.

The congregation spoke in tongues as the disciples did at the first Pentecost. Glenis led the prayers and balloons were blown up and cut out flames were distributed for everyone to put their prayers for World which the children took outside.

Richard read from Acts 2 telling of the coming of the Holy Spirit. Brian began his address by saying that China is the sleeping giant with Christianity spreading very quickly there.

It is time that there is a revival in the Western Church.

Pentecost was the first sleeping giant, a young church sustained by prayers.

The Church has to be revitalised.

He shouted very loudly “What do we need to do” and the congregation replied “ To wake up.”

Prayers for intercession were for freedom, mental health, teachers and friends led by Eric.

Glenis had handed out letters and a passage read by Eric and gradually everyone with letters came out to spell “Jesus is Lord.”

The children came in with a lovely collage they made from all the flames.

There then followed a delicious Bring and Share Lunch followed by games in fellowship.
